Step-by-Step Guide to Calculate BMI

  1. Measure Your Height:

    • Ensure you are barefoot and standing straight.
    • Use a tape measure or stadiometer to measure your height in centimeters (cm).
  2. Measure Your Weight:

    • Use a digital or analog scale to measure your weight.
    • Ensure you are wearing minimal clothing and measure your weight in kilograms (kg).
  3. Convert Height to Meters:

    • Since BMI requires height in meters, convert your height from centimeters to meters by dividing by 100.
    • For example, if your height is 170 cm, then Height in meters=.
  4. Calculate BMI Using the Formula:

    • The formula for BMI is:
    • BMI=Weight in kilograms/(Height in meters)2
    • For example, if your weight is 70 kg and your height is 1.70 m:- BMI=70/(170)2=70/2.8924.22
    1. Interpret Your BMI:

      • Use the following ranges to interpret your BMI:
        • Underweight: BMI < 18.5
        • Normal weight: 18.5 ≤ BMI < 24.9
        • Overweight: 25 ≤ BMI < 29.9
        • Obesity: BMI ≥ 30
  5. Example Calculation

Let’s say your height is 160 cm and your weight is 60 kg.

    1. Measure Your Height: 160 cm
    2. Measure Your Weight: 60 kg
    3. Convert Height to Meters: Height in meters=160/100=1.60 m
    4. Calculate BMI:
    5. BMI=60/(1.60)2=60/2.5623.44
    6. Interpret Your BMI:
      • A BMI of 23.44 falls within the “Normal weight” range.
