BMI Calculator
Step-by-Step Guide to Calculate BMI
Measure Your Height:
- Ensure you are barefoot and standing straight.
- Use a tape measure or stadiometer to measure your height in centimeters (cm).
Measure Your Weight:
- Use a digital or analog scale to measure your weight.
- Ensure you are wearing minimal clothing and measure your weight in kilograms (kg).
Convert Height to Meters:
- Since BMI requires height in meters, convert your height from centimeters to meters by dividing by 100.
- For example, if your height is 170 cm, then Height in meters==100/170=1.70 m.
Calculate BMI Using the Formula:
- The formula for BMI is:
- BMI=Weight in kilograms/(Height in meters)2
- For example, if your weight is 70 kg and your height is 1.70 m:- BMI=70/(170)2=70/2.89≈24.22
Interpret Your BMI:
- Use the following ranges to interpret your BMI:
- Underweight: BMI < 18.5
- Normal weight: 18.5 ≤ BMI < 24.9
- Overweight: 25 ≤ BMI < 29.9
- Obesity: BMI ≥ 30
- Use the following ranges to interpret your BMI:
Example Calculation
Let’s say your height is 160 cm and your weight is 60 kg.
- Measure Your Height: 160 cm
- Measure Your Weight: 60 kg
- Convert Height to Meters: Height in meters=160/100=1.60 m
- Calculate BMI:
- BMI=60/(1.60)2=60/2.56≈23.44
- Interpret Your BMI:
- A BMI of 23.44 falls within the “Normal weight” range.
